This project was created as an illustration for the mixtape Grimoire by French musician Drako.
A grimoire is a textbook of magic, typically containing instructions on how to create magical objects like talismans and amulets, and how to perform spells, charms, and divination.
The central character is an old wizard, holding a grimoire in one hand and a tobacco pipe in the other. The pipe is adorned with the figure of a maiden, and his face is marked with ritual tattoos.
The cold light of the moon streams through the window, illuminating the scene with an eerie glow.
The project was primarily created using Cinema 4D. I began with a scene blockout and then moved on to sculpting the character in ZBrush. Once the sculpt was complete, I created a low-poly version and baked the high-poly details. Texturing was done in Substance Painter. The robe was crafted in Marvelous Designer, and the beard was created in Blender.
All the assets in the scene were made by me using Cinema 4D and ZBrush. Smoke and various details were added and refined in Photoshop, where the final post-processing also took place.
The entire project took approximately one week to complete.
